Managing Conflict at Work

   Meet The Authors.

Clive Johnson and Jackie Keddy practice as business partners in The Janus Partnership LLP, a forward-thinking consultancy dedicated to training, conflict coaching, mediation and conflict management consulting (www.thejanuspartnership.com). They met whilst Jackie was working as programme leader for the London Metropolitan Police Service, and then was a client to Clive.

Whilst completely opposite personalities, they say that they never have had anything other than very healthy disagreements and both complement the strengths of the other which they say compensates for their own weaknesses perfectly!

Their business co-operation extends beyond an interest in conflict management to include coaching implementation and evaluation.

Jackie learned to hone her conflict resolution skills the hard way, whilst serving as a police officer for nearly 30 years on the streets of London. Her work often involved having to deal with volatile and occasionally dangerous situations (she was shot at and threatened with violence several times), whilst she also held roles in homicide and domestic abuse units during her long policing career.

As a Detective Chief Inspector, she succeeded in breaking through the glass ceiling that holds many women back in large public organisations, claiming that she still has "the splinters to prove it!"

Known as being a "go-getter", Jackie was a natural choice to head up the Met’s in-house coaching programme, which she successfully led to achieving the European Quality Award of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, the first UK not-for-profit organisation to do so.

As a senior operator in HR, Jackie also spearheaded initiatives in grievance investigation, herself conducting nearly 100 investigations throughout her career, and she frequently employed her skills as a qualified mediator.

A winner of numerous awards and a popular conference speaker, Jackie is well-known in the world of conflict management. She recently left the Met and now practices as a mediator, conflict coach and trainer/consultant with The Janus Partnership, the specialist conflict management organisation that she created with Clive. She also co-founded and regularly hosts events for the International Conflict Management Forum (www.conflictmanagementforum.org).

Jackie lives in North London, is married and has two children and three grand-children. She enjoys jogging and swimming to keep fit and likes spending time in her colourful garden.

Clive started his career in IT, before becoming a specialist in project management and later spending several years working for a leading management consultancy. He has worked for clients in many parts of the world and across a wide range of industries.

A qualified coach and seasoned trainer, Clive enjoys engaging in research on conflict topics. With Jackie, he co-founded and co-hosts the International Conflict Management Forum and he is a partner of the The Janus Partnership.

A prolific writer, Clive also enjoys speaking on conflict topics.

He lives in Brighton on England's south coast and says that he is happiest when riding a horse on the nearby South Downs or roaming in some remote part of the world. A self-confessed beginner in most things, he nonetheless likes to try his hand at just about anything - everything from Bollywood dancing to driving an Arctic lorry.
